Understanding Sound and Vibrational Healing

In ancient times, the seemingly magical powers of sound to heal was used by most cultures.
 The Aboriginal people of Australia are the first known culture to heal with sound. Their “yidaki”, or didgeridoo as we know it today, has been used for healing for at least 40,000 years. The Aborigines healed broken bones, muscle tears and illnesses of all kinds using the “Yidaki”.
 In ancient Egypt, priestesses used a “sistra” a type of rattle with metal discs inside that not only produced a pleasant jingling sound, but now we know it also produces ultrasonic waves which are used in our modern-day healing.
 In ancient Greece, Pythagoras, who is considered to be the Father of Music Therapy, taught the use of the flute and the lyre as primary healing instruments. He was the first to prescribe music as medicine.
 In the Greco Roman healing temples, it seems music was used therapeutically. The design of the temples enhanced the healing properties of musical instruments.
 The Gong as a musical instrument has wonderful healing properties because it contains the whole spectrum of audible sound. Our human cells, immersed in the Gong energy field, absorb the vibrational frequency they need, and they heal.

There is a gap of about 450 years in the tradition of sound healing and, during that time, it almost died out. In 1936 we see the return of sound healing to the modern era.

But what is sound?

Sound is a pressure wave created by a vibrating object. The vibration sets particles in the air in motion and creates a wave that transmits energy. In our bodies, sound is the reception of these waves and how they are perceived by the brain. Sound is a vibration that we hear, and our bodies and minds react. A song can make us feel happy or sad. A loud, unexpected sound startles us, and we react from fear. As we sense possible danger, we tense up, we jump. We react to the sound made by the vibration.

Everything is vibration

There is a law of physics that tells us that matter and energy are not created, not destroyed – they simply change according to how their particles are vibrating. When vibration is applied to the body’s energy field and to the physical body – mental, emotional and physical changes can occur. Healing takes place and that law of physics is in play.

Tuning Forks for Vibrational Healing

By using tuning forks, vibration is applied to the tissues of the body that have been affected by stress or dysfunction. This is a gentle and non-invasive therapy that reaches the deeper tissues of the body and can treat the organs in the body, while the patient is comfortable and relaxed.
Tuning forks can be used to treat several energy imbalances, some of which are headache, sinus pain, neck and back pain, arthritis and emotional disturbances. They are an effective and beautiful way of deepening your relaxation during mind and body work. They are a wonderful addition to a Reiki or Reflexology session, an acupuncture treatment or a massage. The use of tuning forks brings more energy into a healing session and benefits not only the client, but the practitioner as well.

Benefits of Tuning Fork

The body responds well to vibration for, after all, it is made of vibration. Introducing sound vibration at points along the body’s energetic pathways attunes the body on a cellular level. This opens the pathways where the Qi (pronounced “chee”) – the body’s natural life force energy – flows. Energy blocks are removed, the flow of Qi is increased, and the body shifts into homeostasis allowing healing to begin. The sound waves created by the forks release disharmony and tension from the body, remove blockages in the Qi and help to restore balance and well-being. After the vibration ends, sound continues to travel through the body. Some people say they continue to hear the sound for a few hours, even days after a session. The body uses the sound as it needs and for as long as it needs. Taking the opportunity to experience the healing energy of vibration and sound can be an unforgettable and life-altering experience – gentle, non-invasive, amazing.
Here’s to good vibrations!
